The easiest way to arrive to the Georgia Tech campus is via I-75/85; directions for both south- and north-bound travelers are listed below:
Driving south on I-75/85 into Atlanta:
Take Exit #249D (North Avenue). At the top of the exit ramp, turn right onto North Avenue. Cross Techwood Drive (the first light) and continue on North Avenue to Cherry Street (before the next light, Tech Parkway) and make a right. Make a left onto Ferst Drive. Visitor parking for Area 2 and Area 3 is accessible from Ferst Drive.
Driving north on I-75/85 into Atlanta:
Take Exit #249D (Spring Street/West Peachtree). At the top of the exit ramp, proceed through the first intersection (Spring Street). At the next intersection (West Peachtree), turn left. Continue on West Peachtree for approximately one block and turn left on North Avenue. Cross over the interstate and Techwood Drive. Continue on North Avenue to Cherry Street (before the next light, Tech Parkway) and make a right. From here, you will be able to take a left onto Ferst Drive. Visitor parking for Area 2 and Area 3 is accessible from Ferst Drive.
Below are some alternate routes from the highway. These are old directions, so some landmarks may have changed and they may no longer be perfectly accurate. However, if you wish to try them, they might work.
An (old) alternate 85 route: Take I-85 S to Exit 86 for GA-13 South to Peachtree Street. Merge onto GA-13 South. Take the exit for US-19/GA-9/Peachtree Street to Buckhead. Stay left for US-19/GA-9 SOUTH/Spring Street/Peachtree Street. Take the RIGHT lane to get onto US-19/GA-9 SOUTH to Spring Street/Downtown. Turn right onto Spring Street (Help-U-Sell is in front of you). Turn right onto 10th Street (Chevron Station is ahead on the right). Go over I-75/85. Turn left onto Hemphill Avenue (Institute for Paper Science and Technology on left). Where Hemphill ends, turn right onto Ferst Drive. Follow Ferst Drive around to the Area 3 (surface lot) or Area 2 Visitor Lot and turn left into the parking lot.
An (old) alternate I-75 Southbound route: Take I-75 South to Exit 255: W. Paces Ferry / SR 3 / US 41 / Northside Parkway. At the end of the ramp, turn left onto West Paces Ferry Road and immediately get into the rightmost lane. Turn right at the light onto Northside Parkway. (OK Cafe will be in front of you.) Follow Northside Parkway, which will merge into Northside Drive. Stay in the right lane, as the middle lane is a reversible lane. (You will go a total of 5 miles on Northside before you make your next turn.) Stay on Northside Drive, eventually crossing over I-75. You will go under two different sets of railroad tracks, and just after IKEA, there will be a slight left onto Hemphill Avenue. (You’ll go left of the BP station, while Northside Drive will go to its right.) Take Hemphill Avenue until it ends and turn right onto Ferst Drive. Follow Ferst Drive around to the Area 3 (surface lot) or Area 2 Visitor Lot and turn left into the parking lot.
From I-20: Take I-20 into Atlanta, exit on I-75/85 N, and follow the appropriate directions above.
On MARTA: Take MARTA to the North Avenue stop (on the north-south line, approx. 20-minute ride north of Hartsfield airport) and walk west along North Avenue. Continue across I-75/85, past the football stadium, finally turning right on Cherry St. (perhaps 3/4-1 mile). Continue straight on Cherry St to the Library, go down the steps and turn right at the bottom of the steps. HSMC is on the ground floor. Watch for the Math Event signs. (~15-20-minute walk from MARTA).
Some parking advice:
- Although the Georgia Tech campus is generally very safe, please lock your vehicles and keep valuables out of sight.
- Do NOT park in any handicap, service vehicle, or other reserved space unless you have the proper permits! A number of students have used easy parking spots to run five minute errands (even on weekends) and found their cars removed.
Maps and Parking
The HSMD will be held at the Clough Undergraduate Learning Center. If the Tech Recreation Center is hosting an event on competition day, parking will be affected.
- For cars/vans, you can use the AREA 3 Visitor Parking. For more details, please visit: http://pts.gatech.edu/visitors.
- For buses, the cost to park each bus will be $30. They may park on Ferst Drive near the Student Center, at designated spots.
Also, see the parking page and the visitors parking map.
It’s always a challenge for the HSMD organizers to determine whether the Georgia Tech Parking Office will charge our participants or not. There may be number of events happening on campus on the day of the competition, and we have been told parking could be as much as $15/vehicle.
